Effective March 1, 2016 Alberta implemented the

ASME 17.1/CSA B44-13 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.

 

With the adoption of this new code was the introduction of the

Maintenance Control Program or MCP.  The MCP was allowed

a delay in implementation to September 1, 2017.  

 

As part of the MCP, Category 5 testing requires elevators in the province to undergo rated load, rated speed safety testing every 5 years. 

 

The first round of this testing is required to be completed as of

September 1, 2022 and carried out every 5 years thereafter.

 

Owners should make arrangements to ensure they have the work completed prior to September 1, 2022.
